Survival Buddy

WontRip · Survival Buddy

Knowledge that never goes offline.

One box: local AI, offline Wikipedia, medical references, offline maps and survival guides — no internet, no tracking. When everyone else loses signal, you still have access to knowledge.

◆ Open-source (Apache-2.0) 📦 active open-source · v1.31.1 🔌 0 telemetry 📡 works offline

Problem

Your access to knowledge hangs by a single wire.

Internet, cloud and AI are great — while they work. A power outage, a crisis zone, or just a cabin with no signal — and suddenly you can't verify a procedure, find your way, or ask an AI.

Grid-downoutage = no Google, no AI

No coveragemountains, expedition, crisis

Off-gridcabin, boat, holiday

Demo

Ask the AI even at 3 a.m., with no signal.

This is what local AI looks like, answering from an offline library — no internet, no account:

Visitor
No power or signal for 3 days. How do I safely make rainwater drinkable?
Survival Buddy AI · local
I found a verified procedure in the offline library.
The principle in 3 steps: pre-filtration → disinfection → turbidity check. The AI shows a specific verified procedure (boiling / SODIS / chemical treatment) including safety limits — from a stored WHO/survival reference.
This is a general library reference, not medical or emergency advice.

The demo is illustrative. Offline references are no substitute for a professional — in an emergency always contact emergency services first, if possible.

FAQ

Your most common questions.

Yes. Project N.O.M.A.D. is open-source under the Apache-2.0 license — the software is free. You only pay for hardware or our ready-made kit/setup if you don't want to build it yourself.
Only for the initial install and downloading content. After that it works fully offline — that's the whole point.
For the library and maps a cheap mini-PC (4 GB RAM) is enough. For full local AI we recommend a GPU (RTX 3060, 32 GB RAM, SSD).
Everything runs locally, zero telemetry. Note: the system has no built-in login — don't expose it directly to the internet, keep it on your home network.

Survival Buddy is built on the open-source Project N.O.M.A.D. (Crosstalk Solutions, Apache-2.0). WontRip offers curated hardware, preloaded content and setup — not the sale of the (free) software itself. Medical and survival content are references, not professional advice. Survival Buddy is an educational and reference tool, not a life-safety device — don't rely on it as your only source in life-threatening situations; whenever possible, always contact emergency services first.
